Take a moment to think about what you really wanted to accomplish in the past year…something that was super important to you but somehow it didn’t happen.

If you are like most people I know, including myself, you either gave up or “forgot” about some really important aspiration.

There’s a reason why we “forget” to take consistent action toward our biggest goals, but continue to fantasize about achieving them. I’ll come back to that in a minute.

What was your biggest aspiration that you mostly forgot about taking consistent action toward…

Generating more income?

Savings in the bank?

A full caseload?

Money in retirement accounts?

Going to counseling with your partner?

Dealing with the chaos you keep having in your relationships?

Your own mental health?

Not dealing with your spiritual practices in the way you want?

Asking for guidance around parenting?

Seeking out better supervision where you’re stuck with clients?

Going to the gym?

Eating healthier…

You likely think a lot about certain personal aspirations, but it’s so common to “forget” to take consistent action to actually attain them.

Here’s a personal example, I kept “forgetting” last year to listen to a specific podcast about advertising that was recommended to me by a number of people around an issue I was having in Higher Practice.

I kept running into some problems with one of my advertising sources, where my ads manager and I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to impact the amount of therapists I wanted even though it was a very standardized ad medium.

I tried to make adjustments for nearly a year using the knowledge base that I had, but I kept “forgetting” about investing the time and commitment to this podcast that many people were telling me about to learn where I might be making mistakes.

I finally realized after nearly a year of “forgetting” about the podcast that I had an unconscious belief that I could never completely figure this one out so why bother, it’s beyond me, I’m not smart enough, I’m not organized enough, on and on.

These unconscious messages got directly in the way from actually learning how to solve this problem. I literally kept “forgetting” to take action and solve this problem where I wanted to reach more therapists, because I had a belief I couldn’t.

Well, I eventually identified these beliefs and examined whether they were actually true in my life.

They were completely false. I’m very detailed, organized when I choose to be, love learning, and can apply what I learn at an extremely fast and efficient rate.

Once I really got this, I ended up dealing with my advertising dilemma, listened to the podcast, read about eight books around this particular issue, and the problem is now finally getting solved.

So, what aspirations and problems are you “forgetting” about addressing right now in your life?
